We’re excited to make 2024 our most productive year yet.

Here’s a sneak peek at our conservation resolutions for the new year

and a few ways to help us give the marine animals of Southern California the gift of conservation.

  • SURVEY & MONITORING

Sustaining bi-weekly nearshore survey trips in Orange County and Los Angeles County

Expanding our survey range and adding new routes to offshore oil platforms and other destinations

Surveying Catalina Island for animal health, tag resightings, & population movement

Continuing to develop our WatchSpotter project to widely share our data with an expansive audience

  • MORTALITY RESPONSE

Sustaining an on-call mortality response network to document, examine, and necropsy dead stranded and floating marine mammals and sea turtles in Los Angeles County

Training new student first responders and providing valuable, immersive experience in the stranding field

Hosting events and conversations about ecogrief and the role dead strandings play in conservation work

  • EDUCATION, OUTREACH, & ADVOCACY

Welcoming and training many new volunteers

Rapidly expanding our internship and research program at area colleges

Launching an event circuit in Southern California for public education and outreach (stay tuned for dates and appearances!)

Increasing equity and breaking down barriers to participation by partnering with underrepresented organizations and events
